This year’s SEMICON West conference, held in July 2024 in San Francisco, was an important opportunity to discuss the future of the semiconductor and microelectronics industry.
The main themes of the event were the dynamic growth of the sector and new funding opportunities enabled by the CHIPS and FABS Acts. These acts have allowed companies such as Samsung, TSMC, and Intel to expand their manufacturing facilities in the United States. It is projected that by 2030, the semiconductor market will reach the value of one trillion dollars.
A key topic of discussion was the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in manufacturing processes. One of the major issues highlighted by speakers was the effective use of various types of data (text, images, etc.). Currently, around 80% of data generated in the industry remains unused, which is why multimodal models — capable of handling diverse data types and optimizing production processes — are increasingly necessary.
